Avaya Upgrade Notice: Meeting new SHA-2 Security Certificates requirements via SAL gateway upgrades

July 14, 2016

SAN JOSE, CA – July 12, 2016—In an effort to improve and strengthen network security across US, the National Security Agency has recently issued new security requirements, in the form of the SHA-2 Security Certificate, scheduled to take effect January 1, 2017.

If you’re one of the the thousands of Avaya customers to be impacted by this upgrade, you will need to upgrade to the latest release of Secure Access Link (SAL) gateway in order to accommodate the new security protocols.

Complete guidance for the SAL upgrade is provided below. However, if you’d like to download a .PDF of this document, simply click here.

What happens if you don’t upgrade?

If your SAL 2.X gateway is not upgraded and loaded with the newer SHA2 certificates by 31 December, 2016, you will experience a significant degradation in the quality of support Avaya is able to provide, including an end to remote diagnostics and/or alarm monitoring.

In addition, all SAL Gateway 1.x releases and associated material codes are moving to End of Services Support effective 1 October 2016. At this point you are in jeopardy of losing the following;

  • Complete loss of Expert Systems
  • Complete loss of Remote Support
  • Complete loss of Support Tools
  • Complete loss of Remote Provisioning
  • Complete loss of Alarming

Can you install yourself?

Avaya has classified the SAL Gateway upgrades as customer installable. However, for our Managed Service Customers with Software Release Management (SRM) this upgrade and any patching will be applied as part of Managed Service Agreement (MSA).

What if I am not an Advantel Managed Service Customer?
